The University Student Startup Accelerator (USTAAR) is dedicated to transforming student ideas into impactful ventures. We empower aspiring engineers, architects, and entrepreneurs from all disciplines at the University of Miami to bring their innovative concepts to life.

Here's how we do it:

Funding and Resources:

Thanks to a generous $5 million pldege from alumnus Angel Alvarez and his family, USTAAR provides seed funding to 20 student-led teams annually. These grants help students advance their ideas from concept to prototype and feasibility testing. The top teams from Demo Day receive additional funding and support to develop their startups further.

Mentorship and Training:

Our program offers extensive mentorship from successful entrepreneurs and faculty members. This guidance helps students build or refine their MVPs, craft their business models, develop intellectual property, and prepare for investor presentations. We also provide cross-disciplinary training programs focusing on various aspects of entrepreneurship, such as prototyping and intellectual property

Our vision is to create a vibrant ecosystem where student-led startups can thrive, driving socioeconomic development in South Florida and beyond. By briding the gap between academic research and commerialization, USTAAR is commited to turning student ideas and prototypes into real-life ventures that change the world.

How
we work with
startups

"We want to support students, and we know that while they are working on their academics and studies, they may not have a lot of opportunities — but more and more students are showing interest in entrepreneurship, and they are thinking on how they can make a big social impact." Rajguru coninued. "Our students at the University of Miami, and across all South Florida universities, are extremwely talented, an they want to stay in South Florida. We want to gibe them access to the resources they need to be successful. Every team is different, and our goal is to help them identify what stage they're at and the enxt steps they need to take through real mentorship and support."

Suhrud Rajguru,

University of Miami.
